Established in Tokyo in 2021, SO KOIZUMI DESIGN engages in various fields, notably spatial and product design, showcasing Koizumi's unique thinking and experimental approach. During Milan Design Week 2024, the Japanese designer will present two works at Alcova Milano. The first, Fossilized Future, introduces a raw wooden furniture collection.
The second, SEVEN, is a sculptural wind chime based on tensegrity principles, exhibited at Villa Bagatt Valsecchi's historic underground space. Fossilized Future speculates on contemporary resources' fossilized forms, using materials like wood from diseased forests and local soil-like materials. Crafted from brass, SEVEN embodies societal balance and instability, producing harmonious tones when swayed by the wind. This project required precise technical skills involving artisans from seven Takaoka City factories.
So Koizumi Design
In 2021, Tokyo-based designer So Koizumi founded his studio, drawing on his spatial and product design expertise to challenge conventional practices. His innovative style, sparked by his visit to the renovated Neues Museum in Berlin, reflects a fusion of history and modernity. This philosophy is evident in his Fossilized Future collection, which debuted at Milan Design Week 2024.
The collection features rustic furniture that imagines the fossilization of contemporary materials, serving as a narrative bridge between the past, present, and future. Koizumi emphasizes storytelling through his designs, encouraging a perception of everyday objects as potential historical artefacts that embody and communicate societal issues.
