BATIT Studio's wall-mounted artwork, "Ethnic: synthetic," is a 2x2 meter masterpiece of nearly 2000 handmade ceramic pieces. Departing from traditional carpet designs, this dynamic piece, crafted with 2D sketches, and digital software and assembled on a birch plywood frame, offers a fresh, three-dimensional interpretation. With hidden depths and shades, it invites appreciation for traditional wall carpets' origins and essence.

The BATIT Studio has recently completed a wall-mounted artwork. This piece, measuring 2x2 meters, features nearly 2000 handmade ceramic components. It establishes a sense of ethnicity that breaks with traditional carpets, presenting more fluid shapes and internal patterns.
The design process started with two-dimensional sketches on paper. After creating some interesting works, the designers began to generate the contours and patterns of the artwork using 2D computer software. They then proceeded to 3D modelling, generating precise renderings with the chosen colour palette.
They milled organic glass plates using CNC machines while shaping and glazing all the ceramic components according to the design process. After spraying the organic glass plates white and affixing them to a birch plywood frame, the work was hung in the Eretz Museum in Tel Aviv, Israel. Then began the 12-hour task of inserting all the ceramic components, creating a striking 3D artwork that looks different from every angle.
"ethnic: synthetic" is composed of various shapes that reoccur at different heights, creating a three-layer carpet effect. Other ceramic pieces blend to form a three-dimensional pattern, providing a fresh, modern interpretation of the carpet. Unlike familiar carpets, the pattern elements of this carpet remain consistent from all angles, creating various viewing perspectives. It employs depth elements to create shadows and hidden colours, giving new life to the carpet's pattern elements.
The inspiration for this project comes from traditional wall tapestries, aiming to raise questions about them by using existing carpets and finding ways to reinterpret them through materials, shapes, and colours. Through this project, BATIT Studio hopes that observers will be able to understand the work.

Originating from Tel-Aviv, Israel, BATIT Studio is a beacon of inventive design. This design powerhouse was brought to life in 2017 by the talented industrial designer Tal Batit. Born in 1988, Batit carved a noteworthy academic career, graduating with honours from H.I.T (Holon Academic Institute of Technology) in Israel.
BATIT Studio, christened after its founder, has carved a niche in the domain of ceramic design, crafting sculptures and communicative objects. The studio brings together a profound understanding of ancient ceramic practices and the freshness of the contemporary colour spectrum. This blend imparts a unique post-modernist appeal to Batit's eccentric creations while preserving the authenticity of the raw materials.
With each masterpiece, the studio explores the world of contrasts and contradictions. Each creation visually and texturally manifests these juxtapositions.
